The World Food Awards are a focal point of the UK world food calendar, attracting industry leaders and showcasing the very best the sector has to offer.
By rewarding and celebrating excellence, the awards aim to further propel the industry into the mainstream, recognising the very best standards and rewarding the highest levels of service, initiative and commitment.
World food is a rapidly growing sector worth an estimated £1.5 billion at retail, growing at around 12 per cent per annum (Kantar Worldpanel YoY 09/11).
Spurred on by increased migration and the UK consumer’s greater appreciation of international food, big growth areas recently include Mexican and Halal products, while the already well established Chinese, Indian, Asian and Caribbean markets continue to go from strength to strength.
The awards are the flagship event of the World Foods Association (WFA), which promotes UK companies operating in the markets of ethnic food service, including products inspired by Asia, the Orient, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East and South America.
Hosted on previous occasions by the comedy legend Lenny Henry, this year’s awards will again feature a high-profile host and top-class acts with awards presented by well-known celebrities, acclaimed chefs and sporting greats.
To mark the increasing popularity of ethnic products in the market place and its march into mainstream, The World Food Association is opening up more and more categories to UK public vote.
